TrainDL Publication on Closing Policy Gaps in Education

In the ever-changing digital age, it is now more crucial than ever for educational policies to be effective as well as extensive. However, the possibilities that research evidence suggests are often not practiced in reality. In educational policy frameworks, too, there are gaps that need to be addressed to enhance digital education on all academic levels, and establish a better linkage from secondary to tertiary academic education level. But how can those gaps be closed?

TrainDL’s project approach and results have now been considered in a new publication on this topic: The TrainDL paper “Closing the Policy Gap in the Academic Bridge” was developed in cooperation with the Erasmus+ project “Online Pedagogical Resources for European Universities” (OpenU), which addresses innovative pedagogical teaching and learning, and cooperation between European higher education institutions. OpenU and TrainDL are both funded by the Erasmus+ Key Action 3 on policy experimentation, which is aiming to align policy and practice. The authors Dr. Firas Al Laban, Martin Reger and Prof. Dr. Ulrike Lucke work at the Computer Science Institute of TrainDL project partner University of Potsdam.

In order to investigate the gaps in education policies, the authors conducted case studies on both projects and use their results to suggest approaches for closing policy gaps: The basis of the report on TrainDL is the evaluation of the teacher trainings in AI and data literacy that were held in the first evaluation phase.
