TrainDL at the CHI 2023 in Hamburg
A position paper on AI skills in school education and discussions with international researchers: The CHI 2023 conference provided the TrainDL team with another exciting opportunity to network, learn, and share knowledge.
CHI 2023 (ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems) is one of the leading conferences in the computer-human interaction field: In 2023, it was held for the first time ever in Germany, more precisely in Hamburg. Part of this year's conference was the workshop "AI Literacy: Finding Common Threads between Education, Design, Policy, and Explainability". It was organized by Duri Long from Northwestern University and Jessica Roberts and Brian Magerko from Georgia Tech - renowned researchers in the fields of AI and data literacy and digital learning.
In order to participate in this workshop, it was necessary to submit a position paper on the topic of AI skills - an opportunity that the researchers of the TrainDL team at Freie Universität Berlin were glad to seize. The submission by Viktoriya Olari, Kamilla Tenório, and Prof. Dr. Ralf Romeike, "Addressing Data Literacy in K-12 Artificial Intelligence Education," was accepted and can now be read here.
Travelling from Freie Universität Berlin, TrainDL researcher Viktoriya Olari attended the workshop and presented the position paper at the panel "AI in K-12 Education". Viktoriya Olari also discussed common research interests in AI literacy with researchers from Italy's Bruno Kessler Foundation, Sweden's Linköping University, and the U.S.'s Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
